This session will open the conference with an interactive discussion about the BC and Canadian credit union system. As a group we will discuss what this system means to us and Tanya will walk us though observations from recent CEO surveys addressing BC credit union challenges and leadership competencies needed to drive our system forward.

About Tanya Mueller Smith

Tanya Mueller Smith – Manager, Member Relations and Sales – Canada – CUES

Tanya Mueller Smith is an enthusiastic life-long learner who approaches work and life with a people-first attitude. Tanya supports the growth of credit union leaders across Canada through her role of Manager, Member Relations & Sales at CUES and in her Working Committee role with the BC Young Leaders Network.

With nearly a decade in the Canadian credit union system, Tanya has supported credit unions in her various roles providing consulting services, communications support, and project management. Prior to her role at CUES, Tanya was with Central 1 for six years and helped launch the BC Young Leaders network back in 2016.

She has been a life-long credit union member and was a 5-time recipient of the Credit Union Foundation of BC Bursary.

Tanya holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Law, and a Community Leadership Program Certificate from UBC, a Certificate of Business Management and a Certificate of Human Resources Management from SFU and holds two professional designations in HR. Most recently Tanya completed her Strategic HR Leadership Certificate through CUES and Cornell University.

Outside of work, Tanya is mother to an amazing 2-year-old daughter, Isabelle, and a yoga and snowboard enthusiast.
